How does Sentinel work?
The monitoring daemon runs intermittent checks on hosts and services you specify using external “plug-in” which return status information to entinel.When problems are encountered, the daemon can send notifications out to administrative contacts in a variety of different ways (email, instant message, SMS, etc.).
Current status information, historical logs, and reports can all be accessed via a web browser.
Acting on events
Sentinel Event Handlers will help you in acting on events like: shut down services, restart failed services, start applications, restart failed applications run custom scripts, even control external devices, etc.
Performance Data
Sentinel has standard plug-in that can be used to record useful performance data. Several extensions enable Sentinel to record very detailed performance statistics.
